What’s a good place for authentic Japanese food in the Manhattan area?

I’m going to be going to college in New York City soon, and I really like Japanese food. I’m looking for something that’s authentic (I’ve been craving good Japanese curry since I got back from Japan), and not to expensive. Like in the $20-$30 range per meal maybe?
En Japanese Brasserie, on Hudson St.
Hakubai, Park Ave in Murray Hill.
Inagiku, in the Waldorf.
Izakaya Ten, on 10th Ave in the 200’s (more of the ‘hearty’ fare you sound like you’re looking for).
Japonais, right off Union Square.
And that’s just for starters. You’re moving to the best food city in the country, if not the world. As far as "not too expensive," well, it’s not quite the city for the stingy (or the student). But there are a multitude of gastronomical discoveries awaiting you; street carts and service windows in the ethnic neighborhoods especially.
