can i travel with a katana (Japanese sword) in my luggage from UK to India ?

Posted on October 31st, 2010 by admin

i have a collection of some katana blades and i am in the process of moving to india… so will i be allowed to carry these swords in my luggage and will there be any duty that i will be liable to pay?

You could probably get away with 1. Don’t know if you bring many, I once brought a lot of knives with me ( Full Bag ). I got stopped by the officers and had to talk it over. I almost missed my flight.

Best option is just to ship them to India

How has culture in Japan changed because of the US?

Posted on October 28th, 2010 by admin

I need to know how the cultural diffusion from the US to Japan, like how has the US changed Japan?

Sport= baseball is the most popular sport in Japan
Music and fashion = They have a lot of western music and their own popular music is veery westernized.
(although Britain is just as influential in this aspect)
Food= McDonald’s is popular.

Theres a theory that it relates to samurai code of honour. When a samurai defeated another samurai in Battle it was accepted that he could take the place of the other samurai in the village.
Hence after ww2 when america won it was accepted that the Allieds had won because something about them was superior. In this case the atomic bomb.
It was the japanese way to accept weakness and adapt.
So they took on alot of western ways such as politics and aspects of culture

Do you think that I am obsessed with Japanese culture?

No not at all,I’ve been to Japan and the Japanese culture is different but theirs nothing wrong with being interested in it!

japanese band 2010 – 2011 tour dates?

Posted on October 24th, 2010 by admin

does anyone know the tour dates of any japanese band that will be in new york either spring break week or during the summer? thanks ( i am from texas but my friend and I are planning to take a flight to new york just to see a japanese band =) thanks

I’m sorry! I just looked up all the Japanese bands I know(which is quite a lot) and none of them are touring in New York(or even in the US at all.)

It really is a shame that their music is hidden from the rest of the world. I wish that bands from other countries could become more popular in america…

Agricultural Age Cultural Characteristics: Japanese culture is one of the world’s greatest legacies. Through out their long history they have gone through many distinctive periods and styles. During this age Japanese arts and literature florished. The Japanese have one of the oldest literary traditions on earth. One of the earliest works of literature was Kojiki or record of ancient matters written in 712 A.D.

Industrial Age Cultural Characteristics: Japanese during this age were still a culturally rich people, because they valved their past and tried not to destroy it or modernize it. However the emphasis had changed for most of the Japanese arts from stories and paintings about the Imperial court to those about samurai and their gallant deeds.

Information Age Cultural Characteristics: In the information age Japan has to withstand outside corruption of their cultural beliefs from western influences. The Japanese still remain creative in the arts in the form of literature, theater architecture, paintings, etc… The creativity shown in this era doesn’t just end with Japanese living in Japan, some of the better Japanese artisans of this period are sharing their talents with the rest of the world.

People say Japan is expensive, and people have very high salaries, are japanese rich to another countries?

Posted on October 13th, 2010 by admin

when japanese travel to other countris are they considered very rich to this other countries or the salaries are moderate just like the rst of the world they say that Dustmans in Japan Have salaries with 100,000$ a month, well.. that not fair to other countries, I know its fair when people are living in japan but when they travel they will have every thing is cheap in other countries !

Dustman $100,000 a month is false.

Well, Japanese can buy many stuffs in other countries, particularly in other Asia. But many just can’t afford to buy an air ticket now. So it’s not so good as you think.

Name two parts of chinese culture that japan adopted?

Posted on October 10th, 2010 by admin

Culture is often reflected in the religion and language of a society. When viewed in that way two things that Japan has adopted from the Chinese culture are the religion of Buddhism and the writing system of Kanji. Buddhism did indeed originate in India but the form of Buddhism practiced in Japan was consciously imported from China and to this day still has a basis in the traditional Chinese Buddhist philosophies. The Kanji characters that are used in writing the Japanese language are also a conscious import from China. This writing system has been adapted, somewhat awkwardly some may argue, into Japanese culture/language.

Additional Info. I agree "Buddhism was introduced to Japan from Korea," Point well taken. The Koreans in turn got Buddhism from the Chinese model. Ultimately the form of Buddhism that impacted Japanese culture came from the Chinese. Shortly after the Japanese exposure to Buddhism through the Baekje Kingdom of Korea the Japanese sent envoys to the Sui Dynasty of China and, in the end, adopted the Chinese model of Buddhism.
